Customer Situation

Being in the business of providing services with a diverse range of HVAC and building solutions, capturing time and mileage entries from mobile workforce played an important role for the business. With the rapid increase in number of mobile technicians, the current manual paper-based process started to become a bottleneck in billing the end customers. The customer was looking to automate its time and mileage capturing with a direct integration with on-premise ERP. In response to customer's RFP, we proposed a solution of building a time and mileage Microsoft Power Apps time tracking app with Azure SQL Database as back-end and Azure Data Factory for integration with ERP. VNB Consulting Services was subsequently chosen as the partner to implement the solution and provide post go live support.

Our Solution Offering

Our team kicked off the project with discovery of the current manual process of capturing time and mileage and proposed the new mobile friendly architecture leveraging Power Apps. The new Power Apps UI enabled the employees to enter their time and mileage against one or more job(s) on a weekly basis. Along with time and mileage entry an approval process was also built for the supervisors to approve or reject time. Power Apps UI was connected with Azure SQL database in the backend to store the data collected from technicians. A sync process using Azure Data Factory was built to sync data between on-premise Dynamics SL ERP and Azure SQL database. Microsoft Flow was leveraged to create a robust approval and notification mechanism.

Customer Benefits

  • New Power Apps solution provided a mobile user friendly interface for the technicians to enter time & mileage resulting in higher productivity.
  • Fully automated solution improved the billing process resulting in overall enhancement of customer service
