BizTalk Server 2020 is here! Part – I
Excited to share the release of BizTalk Server 2020 which builds on the world’s leading Integration technology Microsoft BizTalk Server. In a series of blog post’s, we @ VNB will do some deep dive into what’s offered in this new release and look-into what would change for existing BizTalk implementations and partners/customers who want to deploy the new BizTalk Server.
This is the 14th release of BizTalk and since 2000’s it is a step forward in how our enterprises do EAI, B2B, and System Integration.
To start with in this post, we are highlighting the new features of BizTalk 2020, listed below are some which would be important in considering a new implementation or migration path from a previous version of BizTalk.
Feature: Support for newer platforms
BizTalk 2020 adds support for the Visual Studio 2019, Windows Server 2019, SQL Server 2019 along with Windows Server 2016 and SQL Server 2017,2016SP2.
This clearly is a way forward to enable customers keep their existing Windows Server and SQL Server investments along with taking a full leap to a newer version of BizTalk.
Features: Analytics
This release has come with Operational Data Monitoring and Analytics, making the best of the power of Azure (Application Insight and Event Hub) for deep data storage and Power BI for reporting and viewing of data.
Features: Application Lifecycle Management with VSTS aka Azure DevOps.
Now outlining multi-server deployments of BizTalk Server 2020 and thereby maintenance of these systems throughout the application lifecycle can be done easily with Visual Studio Teams Services/Azure DevOps
Features: Management APIs
BizTalk 2020 enables to manage the environment remotely with the help of new REST APIs with full swagger support.
Features: Support for Always Encrypted
Use the WCF-SQL adapter to connect to SQL Server secure Always Encrypted columns.
Features: Advanced Scheduling
Adapters now provide new and better scheduling capabilities.
Features: Backup to Azure Blob Storage
Now you can backup BizTalk Server databases to Azure blob storage while deploying BizTalk Server to Azure VMs. This will enable a new direction for the BizTalk DR capabilities.
Features: Adapter for Service Bus v2
Utilization of Azure Service Bus Premium for enterprise-scale workloads has been now enabled while using the Service Bus Adapter.
Features: Transport Layer Security 1.2
Deployment of BizTalk Server has got secure as BizTalk now uses/follows industry-standard TLS 1.2 authentication and encryption.
Features: API Management
BizTalk 2020 enables publishing of Orchestration endpoints using Azure API Management, organizations to publish APIs to external, partner and internal developers realizing the potential of their data and services.
Features: Event Hubs Adapter
BizTalk Server can send and receive messages with Azure Event Hubs with new Event Hub Adapter, where BizTalk Server can do both the roles, as an event publisher and as subscriber, being a part of a new Azure cloud-based event-driven application.
Features: Office 365 Adapters
By Integrating with Adapters that allows you to send or receive Office 365 emails, receive or transmit Office 365 calendar events and create Office 365 contacts, utilize the power of BizTalk in newer office automation workflows.
Features: Group Managed Service Accounts
Extend windows GMSA support to BizTalk operations and services.
Features: Blob Adapter
BizTalk now allows you to Send and Receive messages to/from Azure Blob Storage.
Features: Audit Log
Maintained audit trails of all management operation for more secure BizTalk.
Features: New Read Only Operator role
A Brand new read only operator role to facilitate dev ops model, where access to production stamp is provided but restricted to update anything.
Features: XSLT 3.0
New extensible model for runtime map execution, out of box wiring to work with Saxon XSLT3.0.
Other Updates:
- Move to new long term supported Microsoft OLEDB Driver for SQL Server.
- Support for SSO Affiliate applications in SFTP adapter.
- SQL Availability Group support for BAM DTS Package via SSIS Catalog.
- Partially disabled receive locations.
- Throughput improvements for Dynamic Send Ports with Ordered Delivery.
